Sunsets fill me with awe and can stop me in my tracks. We once pulled off of a highway in Eastern Oregon when the kids were teens, and we were traveling the country for ten weeks in a van.
We noticed, in the rear view mirror, a spectacular sunset beginning. We found a place to exit and hopped onto a split rail fence for the show. The light danced above us in a whirling display of impossible colors, each moment becoming more beautiful than the last. Other cars exited the highway to do the same, until there was a whole group of us facing west. Our oohs and aahs reminded me of a 4th of July show, but this was better than fireworks. When the sky was a low, smoldering-red ember we climbed back into the van and drove away happy.
Two teens on a long trip in a van with their parents, happy. The power of nature!
